And the story continues from "Operation Impregnation"

I am a bad story teller...I have left everyone hanging.  I know you guys have been holding  your breath for the rest of the "story".  For those of you who are still alive and have great lungs, here is a continuation from Operation Impregnation....

Quick recap: I tried everything under the sun at home and with Dr. Funny guy in November 2010.

I gave up on Dr. Funny Guy because he was not giving me the depth/time I needed.  I decided to try another OBGYN.  She was awesome.  Dr. Awesome sat down with me for an entire hour to talk about my history.  Going into the appointment, I thought Dr. Awesome was going to give me a prescription for Clomid and I was outta there.  Not so much.  Dr. Awesome explained that since I was already ovulating that the Clomid was useless and with my history I needed to see a specialist and Jeff needed to be tested.
Jeff's test results came back very good.  They examine morphology (shape), speed, and are they going in the right direction. Super awkward for him, but very little contribution in the greater scheme of what our bodies have to go through.

So, I began my quest for a specialist.  I finally came across one who was known to be one of the best in DFW, so I called.

I made the appointment.

And, then I canceled (you gasp at this point in my story).

You:  Why did you cancel?

Me: Not totally sure.  I think I was in denial that I had a problem.  I kept thinking one more month and then I will go.

You: But, your clock is ticking and that is 3-5 months you could have begun treatment.

Me: I was not ready.  Period.  But, when I was ready...it was time.

You: So, when did you finally schedule an appointment?

Me: Jeff and I finally decided to call the doctor to schedule an appointment mid-January in 2011.  Our first appointment was early February.  Like any specialist, getting an appointment does not happen overnight.

Unsolicited Advice #1: When it is the right time to see a specialist, I think with a prayerful mind and heart, you will know.   Especially, knowing what I know now after going through a year of pretty intense treatment.

Unsolicited Advice #2:If you are under the age of 35ish, you should track your ovulation for at least 6 months before going to a specialist UNLESS your OBGYN recommends it.  Also, your OBGYN can do the dye test (where they make sure your fallopian tubes are open) and you can have your hubbie tested.  I strongly encourage this before you go see a specialist.

Unsolicited Advice #3:  This is not just about you.  This is about you and your sweetie (aka main squeeze).  He has to be part of this decision.  I know it is our body, but he is entitled to being part of this process.  You need his buy-in and involvement.  It still takes 2 to tango.  Ask him to go with you to meet the doctors and consultations.  Jeff was a little freaked out by the whole thing at first, but involving him in the meetings helped his understanding of the process.

Unsolicited Advice #4:  Check with your insurance and see what they cover.  Many companies do NOT cover treatment.  My insurance covered sonograms, lab work, etc.  They did not cover treatment.  So...start saving your dinero.  This is a pricey venture.

Unsolicited Advice #5:  Most importantly...you are going to receive A TON of unsolicited advice/opinions from family and friends.  Take what they say in consideration and listen.  Everyone becomes an "expert" at this point and may even judge you for fertility treatment.  Be prepared to know they are just concerned.  BUT...this is YOUR journey with you and your husband, and let God guide you.  If you listen and talk to Him, he will direct you.

Finding a Specialist: You can find a doctor by asking your OBGYN for who they recommend.  Go to their website and look for statistics.  Read what they are all about.  Ask other friends if they have heard about your doctor.  And, finally, find someone you feel comfortable with.  Each doctor will have a consultation with you for about 30-60 minutes.  There is ALOT of homework and paperwork that they require before you meet with them.  Make sure  you complete before your first appointment.

If you are at this point and need someone to talk to, please contact me.  I would love to listen and provide any support I can.

XOXO
